Wayfinding

The Johns Hopkins Hospital

Baltimore, Maryland

The expansion project consisted of the Sheikh Zayed Hospital and connected Bloomberg Children's Hospital. As a lead designer, responsibilities included the design of exterior building identification, vehicular and pedestrian signage as well as interior identification, wayfinding, donor recognition and map design. Utilizing the developed strategy, floor maps incorporate a color coded pathway or "Main Loop" connecting users to all major destinations. The effort involved many processes and fabrication methods requiring diligent coordination, prototype reviews and overall supervision. Processes included limestone carving, silk-screened graphics, etched & paint filled graphics on glass, reflective vinyl, dimensional letter forms and illuminated letters.
