Shelby Farms Park

Memphis, Tennessee

Located just outside of Memphis, Shelby Farms Park is one of the country’s largest urban parks (roughly 5x the size of NewYork’s Central Park). In addition to a visitors center and restaurants, the park features trails, lake activities, horseback riding, a treetop adventure course, buffalo range and more.

As part of it’s multimillion dollar renovation and expansion, the park required an updated wayfinding program to identify and direct visitors to main entrances, parking, and destinations. In order to make the park’s size more manageable to its users, a strategy was developed to subdivide the park into named & color-coded zones, identify primary and secondary gateways, and simplify messaging. Since completion of the improvement project park attendance has doubled.
